Tarabya Villa 8 is the interior renovation of a three-storey hillside home overlooking the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Led by ODA Creative + Architecture, the project retains the original structural framework and floor plan, focusing instead on reinterpreting material language and spatial clarity to suit contemporary modes of living.
The design strategy centred on refining rather than transforming—enhancing spatial flow, coherence, and comfort through subtle yet deliberate interventions. A restrained palette of natural oak panelling, dark volcanic stone, and honed surfaces creates a continuous tactile and visual experience across all levels. In the kitchen, brushed brass elements, monolithic dark countertops, and integrated shelving systems bring warmth and precision into everyday routines.
Existing elements such as the curved concrete staircase and fireplace were preserved but carefully re-detailed to align with the overall material logic. Flush detailing, recessed lighting, and clean joinery lines define the architectural character, offering a calm and unbroken visual field. In the bedroom, a leather-panelled headboard, dark oak joinery, and rhythmic wall compositions support a sense of retreat and quiet.
Every material and spatial decision was made to support longevity, usability, and understated elegance. A home that reveals its depth over time, shaped not by excess, but by thoughtful restraint.
