Housing

Date

2024

Location

Kızılağaç, Kırklareli

Built Area

125 m2

Kızılağaç 79 is a single-storey countryside retreat located in a small village in Kırklareli. Designed by ODA Creative + Architecture, the house was conceived as a modest seasonal home—compact in scale yet deliberate in its architectural language. With 125 m² of enclosed area and an additional 115 m² of surrounding garden, the project balances interior living with its immediate landscape.

The spatial organization follows a clear linear logic: a living area and open kitchen anchor the plan, while two bedrooms and a shared bathroom extend along a central spine that opens towards the south-facing yard. This arrangement allows for direct continuity between indoors and outdoors, framing the garden as an essential extension of daily life.

Material decisions prioritise simplicity and local sourcing. Light-toned plaster, thermowood cladding, and natural stone flooring compose the primary envelope, with minimal detailing—flush transitions, frameless window systems, and shallow eaves—reinforcing an architecture of clarity rather than gesture.

The garden, compact but carefully measured, mirrors the geometry of the house. A restrained planting scheme, low retaining walls, and gravel pathways establish a quiet rhythm of movement, ensuring the outdoor spaces remain in proportion with the building’s modest scale.

Constructed by Doğan Construction, the project was delivered with an economy of means—its value residing not in size, but in precision, coherence, and restraint. Kızılağaç 79 is a house that privileges calm over spectacle, offering its inhabitants a slower, more grounded experience of time.
